/ 02The brief
Conceived as a contemporary interpretation of a Mayan temazcal, the spa is organized around a central plunge pool and a single oculus that frames the sky above.
/ 03The response
A subterranean spa built into the limestone of the Yucatán — six treatment rooms, a cenote pool, and a steam temple.
The design centres on a quiet procession of rooms, each with its own material vocabulary — patinated brass and lime plaster in the entrance; deep emerald and oak in the library; calacatta viola marble and hand-loomed linen in the dining room. We worked closely with the client over eighteen months, and with a team of craftspeople drawn from our long-standing network of workshops.
